BNP councillor's motor accident claim deemed false

Zurich has won a court battle against two men who colluded to defraud the insurer in a claim worth up to £30,000.

Zurich’s case was upheld in Burnley County Court on Tuesday after Stephen Hargreaves, a Zurich motor client, and Derek Dawson, a BNP councillor in Burnley, made a claim in which it was alleged that Dawson fractured his ankle after a car driven by Hargreaves hit a ladder on to his leg.

However, the court threw out their claim after it was proved the method of the injury was false.
