The silly season is already upon us, reckons Sid, if some insurance industry moves are anything to go by

Sadly, I hear the wrong people are leaving AXA, with Ant Middle en route to Aviva. But the good news for the competition is that Philippe Maso is personally in charge of the commercial intermediary division. More extra commission deals, or war on consolidators? Ce n’est pas la guerre ... Où est Monsieur Meehan?

Ken Norgrove, a jockey in a previous life, is on his way back to Eire to join Travelers (that’s the one ‘L’ variety and not ‘travellers’). He was Paul Donaldson’s straight man and many brokers will be sorry to see him go.

Will we see Adrian Brown conjure up another leprechaun, or will he steal a replacement henchman for Donaldson from the competition? Mr Hanks watch your back, I’d advise. And what an own goal to send Aaron Devitt to Scandinavia. Poor timing all around.

Aviva has also worked out it doesn’t have anybody that can do corporate risk underwriting and has hired Dipak Warren – a very smart move. I predict this enterprise will be wound up within three years!

Can we expect to see changes too at Equity, following the reserves hiccough? Those Aussies have little patience when it is their money.

A summer of change, just as I predicted.
