Mystery blogger Sid on his favourite Biba moments

Our mystery market blogger Sid's low-down on the Biba Wednesday night insurer dinners reveals some amusing highlights ...

RSA’s do was a blast, with Paul Donaldson pretending to be ready to fall headlong off the stage at any moment as he compèred the evening. He felt dizzy apparently.

Michael Portillo sang gospel songs at the Allianz dinner at the Gherkin and Andrew Torrance spoke for less than his usual 90 minutes.

Groupama had canapés rather than the tasty pies the hungry brokers on board their loveboat were really craving.

And Philippe Maso was busily entertaining Mike Keating for most of the evening, proclaiming that it is rubbish (or rather “garbage”) that he is retiring to France later this year. That’s a cert then!

But perhaps the highlight for me was Rob Brown being accused by the svelte-like Phillip Hodson of being stuck in the rather uncomfortable stools on stage on day two of the conference. Who would win a punch-up between the two mammoths? Only way to find out ... fight! Insurance celebrity boxing – now that is a neat idea.
