New figures show that more than 5,000 households are still displaced

More than 10,000 people have yet to return home following last summer’s floods, according to figures obtained by BBC Radio 5 Live.

The radio station based the estimate upon figures from local authorities, but said the actual number could be even higher because some people may have not notified the authorities of their position.

The problems have been exacerbated by a shortage of skilled workers.

The floods generated £3 billion in insurance claims, the ABI has estimated.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
