Company history:

Groupama Insurances was formed in 1999, following the merger of GAN Insurance and Lombard General Insurance Company.

Groupama itself can trace its origins to 1840, from where the company grew from its roots in the French agricultural commu-nity to become one of the world's leading mutual property and casualty insurers and one of Europe's largest financial services groups.

Pierre Lefevre was appointed UK chief executive in 2002 as the business began to align itself more closely with the strategy of its parent company as a professional supplier of personal insurance, smaller commercial insurance and healthcare solutions.

In April 2003, Francois-Xavier Boisseau was appointed managing director to help implement the group's strategy and following a review of business distribution, Amanda Blanc was recruited from AXA as director of distribution and customer service.
