Company history:
On May 2 1863 five prominent citizens of Basel founded the Baloise Fire Insurance Company, a year later in 1964, they went on to establish the Baloise Transport Insurance company and the Baloise Life Insurance company. A little less than 100 years later (in 1958) the latter transferred its accident insurance business to Baloise Accident Insurance , a company set up especially for this purpose, although these companies were loosely connected with one another. In 1962 Baloise -Holding was set up as a holding company for the Baloise companies which up until then had been independent entities. In 1971 this was followed by the next logical step - the merger of the non-life companies to form the Baloise Insurance Group.
