Company history: Centrica was created in 1997 following the demerger of the old British Gas group into Centrica and BG.
In July 1999, Centrica announced the acquisition of the Automobile Association (AA) for £1.1bn.

Biography: Briscoe joined Centrica in 1998 as managing director, Goldfish Credit Card, and after Centrica acquired the AA he also took responsibility for AA Financial Services.
In November 2000 he moved over to British Gas to be director, sales and customer retention, before being appointed managing director AA Insurance Services in January 2002.
Prior to joining Centrica, he was sales director at BUPA. He has also worked in sales, marketing and general management for Clerical Medical and American Express.
