Snow caused road chaos, upping claims and recovery calls

The AA says yesterdays snow and blizzards could have caused the busiest day for road accident claims, with more than 500 claims to its call centre by 5.30pm.

Claims were increasing into the evening, the AA said. AA recovery also received 16,000 calls for breakdowns before 3pm.

The busiest day of 2009 had 2 February when the last widespread snow fell. Then, just over 800 claims were taken.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, says: "Fortunately, most accidents are at a relatively slow speed so we're not getting reports of injuries.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
