Abbey National is selling 2,000 policies a week after re-launching its travel insurance policies.

The policies are underwritten by Financial Insurance Company, which is a subsidiary of GE Financial. Sector manager Madeline Golding said GE Financial provided a "white label service solution "for Abbey National.

She said that the policies were now available online.

"We are working with the client as to how to distribute the product," she said. New options available include cover for single-parent families, weddings, golf and business travel.

Abbey National travel insurance marketing manager Peter Jones said holidaymakers 'travel insurance needs were now more flexible.

"Our research suggests that now most people do not book their travel insurance at the same time as they book their holiday.

"They prefer instead to shop around for the best deal," he said.
