British Lung Foundation launches fourth annual event.

The Association of British Insurers has voiced its support for the fourth annual Action Mesothelioma Day.

The campaign, run by the British Lung Foundation, aims to raise awareness of mesothelioma and to improve the treatment and care of people affected by mesothelioma - a terminal chest cancer that develops between 15 and 60 years after exposure to asbestos.

Nick Starling, the ABI’s director of general insurance and health, said: “Mesothelioma is a cruel illness, and we fully support this campaign to raise awareness and improve the treatment and care for sufferers. Insurers remain fully committed to paying fair compensation to claimants as quickly as possible. To help this, ABI runs a tracing service which helps many mesothelioma claimants find an insurer to claim against where their employer has ceased trading.”

A range of Action Mesothelioma Day events are scheduled for today throughout the UK. Visit http://www.lunguk.org/media-and-campaigning/campaigns/actionmesothelioma.htm for more information.
