Alexander Forbes Professions (AFP) has announced that it has prevented an attack from a rival start-up company.

AFP said: "Many of the staff who had originally tendered their resignations have now committed their long-term future to Alexander Forbes. The defections have been limited to a closely-knit team rumoured to be leaving the company to various new homes/competitors for the past 12 months.

"Alexander Forbes Professions has acted immediately to strengthen the management of the business. James Houlder has been appointed as managing director and additionally key appointments have been made to the executive board.

"The comprehensive client care programme has been implemented which has been well received and less than 10 calls have been received from clients on the special hotline. Most clients are unaffected and continue to be serviced by their key account handlers. Alexander Forbes Professions has lost no clients as a result of the team defection.

Stewart McCulloch, chief executive, Alexander Forbes International Risk Services, said: "We have received tremendous support from the markets and many supportive comments from a wide range of clients.

"Our focus will continue to be devoted entirely to looking after our clients' interests and ensuring that their needs are prioritised. We have 180 people in the professions division focused on the clients, backed up by tremendous support from the Alexander Forbes Group."
