Allianz Cornhill is aiming to double its premium income from London brokers in 2004.

It is targeting "mid-market" commercial business in the £10,000 to £50,000 premium bracket.

As part of the drive, Allianz Cornhill's London-based brokers have been given access to its Insight facility for the placement of small commercial business from 1 January 2004.

The insurer is also looking to package liability and fleet risks as a way to write more "difficult" risks.

City development manager Mark Hadfield said: "We are looking to write this smaller business to balance our portfolio. We want to get more business out of our current agency base."

The insurer currently has around 80 brokers in the City and West End area. Hadfield declined to reveal how much premium income these brokers currently generate for the business.
