Amlin has reported a 42% rise in full year profit, with strong underwriting profits outweighing a £130m loss from hurricanes.

Amlin said pretax profit for the year to Dec 31 rose to £182.7m up from £128.9m a year earlier.

Gross premiums rose to £993.5m from £945.6m.

Amlin added that it had made a good start to the year with gross premiums up 26% in the first two months from the same period a year earlier.
