Peter Harmer to succeed Stephen Matanle

Aon chief Peter Harmer is to become chairman of the London Market Reform Group (MRG).

Harmer is the third appointment in six months, following Stephen Matanle, former head of placements at Marsh UK, and Aon deputy chairman Jonathan Palmer-Brown.

Harmer said: “I am delighted to accept the role as chairman of MRG. I see the work to deliver MRG’s vision as a vital opportunity to shape London’s future role in the global insurance market. We can build on the substantial track record MRG has for delivering change to ensure London remains the market of choice.”

Richard Ward, chief executive of Lloyd’s added: “The MRG’s work is key to the success of Lloyd’s and London as a whole. I am therefore delighted that Peter will be taking on the chairmanship. We have demonstrated in recent years the profound and beneficial change that can be achieved when all constituents in the market collaborate and pull together; I look forward to doing all I can to help Peter build on this joint effort and take the market forward”

Stephen Riley, chairman of the IUA said: “The continuing success of the reform agenda is vital for the competitiveness of the London market. I am very pleased that Peter is joining us to help lead this work. On behalf of the market, and Steve Matanle’s colleagues on MRG, I should like to express our gratitude for the leadership and drive he has given to market reform through his active MRG participation over the past six years.”
