Product can extend to include the home contents of publicans or managers that live on-site

Commercial insurance underwriting agency Anglo Pacific Consultants (APC) has launched a pubs and wine bars package product, which can extend to include the home contents of publicans or managers that live on-site.

While some insurers do offer this cover, APC said its research found a high proportion of traditional policies for pubs and wine bars often exclude the home contents on the premises.

The new product, available via APC’s QuoteMac system, also caters for changes in the risk profile of pubs and restaurants since round the clock drinking became legal. It provides cover for many establishments from city wine bars to gastropubs to traditional hostelries. APC said that the broad range of outlets types catered for also means referrals are kept to a bare minimum when brokers access the product.

APC director Ian Russell said: “The risk profile of drinking establishments is changing with the emergence of city wine bars that have late licences and traditional pubs experimenting with different types of entertainment.

“There is a growing gap between the cover that is available and the way these businesses are diversifying, which we wanted to address.

“There is also a lack of cover for the home contents for publicans who live on site. Once deferred to a home contents insurer it is not uncommon for them to try 10 providers and still not obtain the cover they need. We developed a product that provides the right cover all under one roof which should certainly be beneficial to brokers”
