The Bank of England has quashed Abbey National's plan for an April fool's joke.

The Abbey intended to release a story about customers using printers in their homes to produce cash. But when the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street got wind of it, she suggested it might lead to real counterfeiting operations.

“The bank outlined their security concerns and we agreed to drop the story,” said a slightly embarrassed spokesman for Abbey National.


The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
