Giles Quartly and Laurie Devereaux join general liability division

Lloyd’s specialist insurer Argo has appointed two casualty underwriters.

Giles Quartly has joins as general liability class underwriter and Laurie Devereaux as deputy general liability underwriter.

Quartly and Devereaux will be responsible for sustainably expanding the division, by actively engaging in underwriting, business planning and team management.

Quartly joins Argo from Allianz Commercial, where he was casualty underwriter manager. Prior to this, he held various positions with Iron Trades Insurance and QBE.

Devereaux has 23 years experience in the London and UK regional insurance market. He joins Argo from Markel International, where he was class underwriter for general liability business. Prior to this, he worked in various underwriting roles at Sun Alliance, Independent Insurance and Allied World Assurance.

Their appointments follow the addition of Andrew Robertson to Argo International’s D&O team and Richard Smart to the casualty team in mid-December.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
