A national trust fund to compensate victims of asbestos-related disease could be established in the US under legislation introduced to the US government last week.
The Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act calls for defendant companies and their insurers to pay for a $140bn fund.
US claimants would have to manifest certain physical impairments before they could pursue a claim.
