Aspen Insurance has stopped writing UK solicitors' professional indemnity (PI) insurance primary policy layers and renewals, but will write excess layers.

An Aspen spokesman said: "The reasons for this are past claims experience, anticipated rates and mandated terms and conditions."

Aspen wrote £1.15m of solicitors' PI business last year, with 0.5% of the market share. The insurer entered the solicitors' PI market in 2008, when it wrote £2.26m of business with a 1% market share.

Last month Chartis also scaled back its solicitors' PI business to concentrate on renewals.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
