'Familiar faces' Hemming and Neil promoted to take over

Brigid Murphy is leaving Aviva’s UK business almost a year and a half after joining as director of trading.

Murphy was latterly Aviva’s director of regional broker for the UK general insurance business. She is returning to Canada, where she started her insurance career.

The vacant role is being filled by two directors of trading, Gareth Hemming and Jon Neil, who have been promoted and will report directly to intermediary and partnerships director Janice Deakin.

“I owe Brigid a huge debt for the last 18 months and for the fantastic work she has done with the trading teams and helping to build our relationships with independent brokers,” Deakin said.

“Although I will be very sad to see Brigid go, I am really pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Jon and Gareth, who have been with Aviva for some time and will be familiar faces to brokers.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
