AXA Commercial Lines and Personal Intermediary has appointed Owen Shelly as mid-corp development underwriter for its Birmingham and Bristol branches.

The hire is part of AXA’s regional strategy to develop the mid-market proposition for brokers in the region.

Shelly joins the team from RSA, where he spent three years as a senior property underwriter.

Prior to RSA, he was property and casualty underwriter for Tokio Marine Europe, and before that held a number of underwriting and broking positions with leading brokers and insurers, including HSBC Brokers, ACE Europe, Aon and AXA.

AXA Birmingham and Bristol branch manager Barrie King said: “Owen joins us with a blue-chip career and nearly 20 years’ experience of commercial insurance.

“We are committed to building the best regional teams to support brokers around the country. We already have one of the country’s leading teams in commercial fleet underwriting, as well as offering our market-leading e-traded simple and complex risks products.

“Owen’s appointment will help develop our mid-corp capability to further support brokers in the region.”
