Two of London's largest common law barristers' chambers are set to merge to create the capital's first "super set" with significant expertise in insurance law.

The new Crown Office Chambers combines One Paper Buildings and 2 Crown Office Row and will have 73 practising members.

It will undertake insurance and reinsurance contract disputes as well as arbitration and all forms of non-marine litigation and advisory work.

The merger has taken place because of the changing legal needs of both chambers' client base.

These include rising costs of litigation, the impact of the Woolf reforms, consolidation of the insurance industry and reduction in eligibility for legal aid.
