A Norfolk Broads initiative sponsored by Zurich Financial Services has resulted in the theft of boats dropping by more than 45% in two years.

The scheme, called Broadsbeat, was established by Norfolk Police and involves two police constables patrolling the Broads in summer, when more than one million people come to the area.

The visitors hire the 2,200 boats on offer from local fleet hire operators, which are a major insurance market for Zurich's Navigators & General and also a major target for thieves.
