“Chicken letters” to Quinn clients may not save brokers

Insurance brokers fear disclaimers known as “chicken letters” sent to clients who insisted on insuring with Quinn Insurance against the broker’s advice that it was risky, may not protect them, the Irish Post reports.

Irish and UK brokers have issued these “chicken letters” when clients insisted on going with Quinn because of price even if the broker warned that with no credit rating Quin could not be recommended.

The British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) took legal advice on the issue and found the disclaimer may breach fair contract requirements if issued to an ordinary consumer. It might be legal for more sophisticated clients.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
