The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has predicted Chancellor Gordon Brown will re-affirm his commitment to building over 17,000 new houses in today's budget.
The proposals, based on the Barker Review of housing supply, first appeared in last year's budget.
Brown may touch on plans for developments on areas at risk of flooding, including the Thames Gateway development.
RICS has also predicted the Chancellor will make reference to the simplification of pension tax regulation, and said that Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT's), popular in the US and Australia, are “likely to feature strongly.”
