The video montage that opened the Personal Finance Media Awards last week drew chuckles from the hacks gathered at the Bafta building on London’s Piccadilly.
The event – in which features editor Lauren MacGillivray was named runner-up in the trade newcomer journalist of the year category – was previously known as the Bradford & Bingley awards.
But the name change, plus the video plugging Santander as if it were a new boy band, reminded everyone how times have changed. It was just two months ago that B&B had to be nationalised and Abbey, which is owned by Santander of Spain, bought its savings business and branches.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
