Carole Nash chief executive David Newman and commercial director Simon Jackson ran 8 miles from the motorcycle insurance broker's Altrincham headquarters to the Biba conference at the Manchester Central on Wednesday.

Newman and Jackson were raising money for Riders For Health.

The pair were responding to a Backchat cartoon published by Insurance Times last year after Newman was spotted by our diary columnist Backchat Insider making an early retreat from last year's Biba in London.

Backchat Insider suggested that Newman, fresh from walking to the North Pole, was off to the gym to get in training for a run to this year’s Biba conference in Manchester.

“Knowing I’m quite an active bloke Insurance Times decided to pull my leg a bit about the reasons for my early departure,” said Newman.

“It was a bit of fun which I loved to the point of proudly displaying the cartoon up at home. Then I caught sight of it last week and thought ‘why not?’ So I pulled out my trainers, got Simon on board and hit the means streets of Timperley, Sale and Manchester otherwise known as the A56!”
