Backchat has been asked by the Brokers and Motor Underwriters' Cricket Club (BROMUCC) for help in spending money it has raised. The charity raises money for special needs children.

BROMUCC chairman Stewart Hayden, of Corinthian Insurance, said: "We don't give money to the large children's organisations like Great Ormond Street Hospital because they get enough money from charities.

"We are looking for the smaller, specialist cases. We recently bought a computer for a blind child when the local authority would not stump up the cash."

BROMUCC organises charity cricket matches as well as the popular race night at The Royal Artillery Club, this year taking place on 15 October. Last year the charity raised roughly nearly £40,000, said Hayden.
