Helen Tarr to lead initiative with Global Special Risks

Chaucer has formed a strategic partnership with Global Special Risks, a US-based insurance broker, to provide a new underwriting platform for land-based oil and gas operators in North America.

The new initiative will enhance the energy services of both companies to clients, combining the underwriting expertise of Chaucer Syndicate 1084 with the product distribution network and the high quality front-end services provided by GSR, which has offices in New Orleans, Dallas and Houston.

Helen Tarr will lead the initiative on behalf of Chaucer Syndicate 1084, joining from GSR, but remaining based at their offices in Houston.

Tarr has nine years of insurance broking experience, starting her career with Willis London, where she spent two years in the aerospace and aerospace reinsurance divisions, and then with Global Special Risks. She was initially based in London and then in Houston, where she was responsible for placing Wellsure Operator's Extra Expense coverage for North American clients and developing GSR's book of Canadian business.

Chris White, head of energy division, Chaucer Syndicates 1084, said: “Our partnership with Global Special Risks significantly increases our US presence. It will enable us to service our existing clients directly from the US and to generate new business opportunities.

“Helen is a great addition to the energy team and brings with her a winning combination of both Lloyd’s and international experience.”
