Director of general insurance Lee Gladwell to leave institute in July

Lee Gladwell, the CII’s director of general insurance, is to join building society Britannia as sales and marketing director of its intermediary business.

Sandy Scott, the CII group chief executive, confirmed that Gladwell would be leaving on 18 July.

Peter Knowles, whom the CII recruited from Norwich Union in February, will replace him.

Gladwell said that after three years at the CII it was time for a new challenge. “It is time to move and do something different,” he said.

He joined the CII as group sales and marketing director in 2005 from Capita and was promoted to head of general insurance markets last year.

The past year has seen a number of departures from the CII. These include Bob Bullivant, the institute’s deputy director general, who left last month to head up retirement income broker Annuity Direct.

Last year, Fiona Andrews, the CII’s head of insurance faculties, was recruited by Towergate.

Scott said: “We get good people and the industry is starting to poach a lot of our staff.”
