Compliance.co.uk has appointed Professor David Jackman to its board.

Jackson brings a wealth of experience to the position from his time at the FSA as head of training and competence, industry training and business ethics. Jackman also founded the Skills Council for Financial Services.

In his new role, Jackman will assist Compliance.co.uk's development of best practice in relation to the Treating Customers Fairly initiative.

Gary Dixon, group chief executive of Compliance.co.uk, said: “David's appointment is a major development for us and will distinguish Compliance.co.uk's approach to TCF from any other service. David will spearhead our full range of support in TCF for regulated companies and will dovetail this with his expertise on corporate governance. These will ultimately lead to our creating an industry benchmark, a recognised quality stamp that can act as a guide to the 25,000+ regulated companies that they are substantially adhering to the rules but cannot easily demonstrate this adherence.”

Jackman said: “The FSA's TCF programme is a natural extension of the Training & Competence rules which I have intimate knowledge of from my time at the FSA. However it only offers guidance not rules. If there are no rules, it is hard for companies to know if they are on the right track — creating such an industry benchmark, will be a large part of my role at Compliance.co.uk.

“While the TCF guidelines are relatively straightforward for smaller regulated companies operating with the right framework in a limited product area to follow, the recommendations are not so clear-cut for larger, regulated companies as they need to think more widely about how they conduct business, systematically analyse how they are organised and the customer protection measures in place”.
