Towergate executive chairman Peter Cullum is well known for his plain speaking.

Becoming embroiled in a legal battle with him could be a daunting prospect, so Backchat has some sympathy for Bob Beckett, of Insurance Risk Services (IRS).

Towergate is rumoured to have already spent £1m trying to stop IRS from poaching its clients in Bury St Edmunds.

According to Cullum, spending another million to protect his business is a worthwhile investment.

Cullum is clearly incensed by the situation. "It is like buying a house and a few months later its original owners move back in," he raged.

On going to court, he warned Beckett: "It is going to be an expensive exercise."
