Government proposals for tackling the risks of flooding and coastal erosion are to be published tomorrow by Environment Minister Elliot Morley.

The consultation paper will be called ‘Making Space for Water'.

The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the consultation paper brings together ideas on what might be done to tackle all types of flooding, including coastal, river, groundwater, sewers, urban and road drainage problems.

Defra said the paper also links more traditional engineering and warning systems-focused flood risk management questions with land use, housebuilding and transport network issues.

The consultation will be available from tomorrow from the Defra website defra.gov.uk.
