Domestic & General, the household appliance insurer, said turnover in its core warranty business during the six months to 30 September was up by 10% on the year, while claims expenses were at the lower end of their historic range.

The group has also announced that it has won a contract to issue after-sale warranties for kitchenware and furnishings retailer MFI.

The MFI deal is expected to boost gross income in the second half by £2m, and by a further £5m in the 2006/07 financial year.

In the full year to March 2005, Domestic & General had pretax profits of £29m, up 26% on the year.
