Powell Bateson will be based in Port of Liverpool building

Eliot Powell has launched a new broker in Liverpool two years after selling his former company to Oval.

Powell Bateson opened this month and has become a member of the Willis Network. The company is based in the Port of Liverpool building on the Pier Head.

In 2008, Powell sold his business Powell Insurance Brokers, which had 40 staff and £16m GWP of mostly corporate business, to Oval.

Meanwhile, former managing director of compliance network UKGI, Mike Williams, is waiting for FSA approval to set up a new commercial SME broker.

Williams said: “People still want good professional advice, as well as buying insurance as cheaply as possible.

“A new business with modern systems means you can ride out the soft and hard market cycles.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
