Natacha Craven, chief human resources officer at Miller Insurance, tells Insurance Times why her firm should win the Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award at 2022’s Insurance Times Awards

Explain briefly about your entry in the Diversity and Inclusion Excellence category.

Miller Insurance entered this category to highlight the success of our Advance programme, which supports underrepresented talent at emerging leader level to promote their development and career progression.

Following the success of our Accelerate programme, which helps junior colleagues from underrepresented talent groups progress their career, we decided to replicate the scheme at leadership level.

Advance comprises of activities such as individual and group coaching sessions, skills workshops and mentoring from senior management.

Following the programme, 50% of participants received a higher performance and development review rating, 75% received a salary increase in the year following participation and 37% were promoted.

What do you think makes your entry stand out or different from your competition?

Although there are many examples of entry level diversity and inclusion schemes, representation and equity remain issues at senior levels of many businesses.

Advance successfully addresses this gap, encouraging those from historically underrepresented groups in the insurance industry to reach their full potential as industry leaders.

What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

To win this award would further boost Miller Insurance’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, continuing our momentum in addressing these critical issues.

We’re hoping to raise awareness to help influence positive behaviour change and ultimately help make the insurance industry a more inclusive and representative place.
