Explain briefly about your entry in the Insurer Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Award category.

We wanted to increase the levels of women in senior management, so the HR team was asked to devise an intervention to build a pipeline of women who would be ready to move into more senior roles. As a result, the Women in Insurance (WIN) programme was born.

This bespoke, in-house programme provides our talented female colleagues with skills, capabilities and confidence to put themselves forward for future leadership opportunities.

Our goal was to increase the number of women in senior management to 35% by the end of 2020. We hit this goal early, thanks in a large part to WIN, and now have 39% representation. This compares to an industry average of 27%.

What do you think makes your entry stand out or different from your competition?

What helps WIN stand out is the personalised nature of the programme, where coaching and workshops are tailored to match each individual’s goals and strengths.

The other stand out factor is its impact - with 25% of participants achieving at least one promotion, it really does work.

What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

We know that we’ve developed a great programme that is really changing the prospects of women in our business. Winning would be a great way to celebrate the impact that WIN and its participants continue to have – it’s a real jewel in our crown.
