Zurich has poached former Royal Bank of Scotland director Mike Quinton to head up its retail and partnerships division.

The move to put both divisions under one managing director echoes a similar structure at Zurich’s European level that was put in place by Theo Bouts, chief executive of direct and partnership in Europe.

The similar structures will allow the UK and European businesses to work together more harmoniously, a Zurich spokesperson said.

Quinton will take over as managing director of retail from Mark Searles whose role has been changed to head of UK marketing.

Quinton will be responsible for growing the business by broadening the distribution of Zurich’s products and underwriting capacity.

Guy Munnoch, chief executive, UK general insurance, has made clear his plans to significantly build on the company’s partnerships.

The move follows Annette Court's appointment as Zurich's chief executive of Europe general insurance last year. She was formerly chief executive of RBS.

Quinton will take up his new position at the start of the New Year.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
