Alec Finch Group director Alec Finch has been elected chairman of Worldwide Broker Network (WBN), an international network of independent insurance brokers.

Finch, who was elected during a council meeting in Montreal, will take office in October for a two-year period.

He will help WBN to complete the development of its Asian and South American programmes.

"We are further developing it into a genuine worldwide network," said Finch.

"We are developing very well, and have a number of members in Asia, but we are looking for new members all the time."

Finch said Worldwide Broker Network, which was founded in 1989 by nine European firms, has aggregate premium volumes in excess of $17.5bn.

It has 53 members in 41 countries, with over 10,000 employees.

Individual members will handle global insurance programmes for international clients, but local brokers will arrange any statutory cover for that jurisdiction, provide local service and claims support, all in the local language.

"It's a way of getting access to markets that you would not have had otherwise," said Finch.

WBN has two members in the UK, Alec Finch Group and Central Insurance Services, based in Aberdeen.
