Norwich Union (NU) has called for a standardised response time to automatic fire alarms.
NU warned varying levels of response by local emergency services to automatic fire alarms could force premium increases.
The company said it would like to see the approach recommended by the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) applied uniformly across the country.
The CFOA has called for the creation of procedural agreements involving fire and rescue services, operators of fire alarms and property owners.
