Rating agency Fitch has affirmed its AA rating on the Winterthur Swiss Insurance Company.
Fitch said the rating was based on the group's excellent business position, strong operating performance and financial flexibility derived from its association with the Credit Suisse Group.
Winterthur Group, which owns UK insurer Churchill and Prudential, is one of the ten largest multinational insurance groups in the world, with gross written premiums at the end of 2000 at CHF32m (£13m). The group is a pan-European underwriter of personal lines and small-to-medium sized commercial risks and is currently ranked seventh in Europe by gross premium volume.
