Fitch Ratings has assigned Brit Insurance (Brit) an insurer financial strength rating of A. The rating outlook is stable.

Fitch said the rating is based on: "The company's very strong balance sheet, its good operating performance, experienced management and underwriting teams and improving business franchise, along with an increasingly diversified underwriting portfolio."

On the other hand, Fitch noted the absolute scale of Brit's capital base relative to leading reinsurers, and its historic susceptibility to volatile earnings from its "catastrophe-exposed account".
