The ethics of staff gifts.

FSA staff members were probably a little miffed last week when they opened a letter from their employer and found a fake football ticket to an England v Germany game.

However, sweetening the blow was the fact that the chocolate coins accompanying the ticket were edible. Along with the gifts was a letter asking whether the employee would know what to do if they were given the treats because of their position with the FSA.

The gifts were part of an ethics exercise to educate staff on the regulator’s updated code of conduct. Under the code, employees are not allowed to accept big-ticket items. But less expensive gifts such as chocolate are OK.
