Carpets and cats, a dire combination which often amuses brokers handling household claims.

The latest feline versus carpet fiascos come from Norwich and Peterborough Insurance Brokers. The first involves Smudge, a moggy who thought the ironing board was a nice, place to rest his weary legs. He jumped up, the iron fell down, and the carpet was ruined. Claim denied.

In the second incident, Fluffy the cat was chased up the stairs and into the bedroom by a randy Tomcat which got into her owner's house. The chase was so frantic that claw marks damaged the carpet. We're not sure whether Fluffy enjoyed the experience.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
