The plaza around the Swiss Re building at 30 St Mary Axe was sealed off this week after one of the tower's giant windows plunged 400ft to the ground.

Swiss Re said that investigations had begun to establish the cause of the incident, while the other 744 similar windows had been secured to prevent any other accidents.

"Health & Safety has approved our course of action while we check everything," said a spokeswoman.
No one was injured when the pane of glass crashed to the ground as the plaza was deserted at the time.
