New appointments at PrimaryAlison Quaile has joined Primary Broker Services from Norwich Union (NU). There she gained more than 13 years' experience in several roles, including commercial underwriter, team manager and, most recently, in project work. At Primary, Quaile heads the team responsible for renewal business and existing business amendments. Tom Clarke has joined the technical support team. Clarke previously worked within the NU marine department. Karen Percy has been promoted to the newly-created role of customer service manager. Percy has been at Primary for 12 months in a sales-focused role. She was previously at CGU, where she managed the on-site facilities.

Brokers

Thomas CarrollCaerphilly-based broker Thomas Carroll has appointed Alison Nolan and Nick James to the positions of personal insurances manager and Thomas Carroll IFA director respectively.Nolan worked at HSBC for 18 years in several departments, including business development and business acquisitions. She was also involved with affinity groups, gaining experience in servicing motor insurance accounts involving companies such as Fiat, Daewoo and Alfa Romeo. At Thomas Carroll Nolan will be responsible for managing all private insurances, with particular emphasis on development in the household high net worth sector.James will be advising corporate and personal clients in all aspects of financial planning and will have additional responsibilities to help continue to build a team of advisers.James has spent 15 years working in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Thomas, Carroll he was national sales manager of Mazars Financial Services, with responsibility for 24 regional and affinity groups.

CobraCobra has made three appointments to its compliance and broker development teams.Mark Peasey is appointed compliance director. Peasey previously had a similar role at BKG. As compliance director, Peasey's responsibilities include making services and assistance in preparing for FSA compliance available to Cobra members. Karen Labaj joins as regional broker development manager. She will work with Paul Smith, Cobra's national broker development manager, in assessing membership applications. Labaj has more than ten years' underwriting experience and was most recently a broker for Adams Financial Services.Paul Harris joins Cobra Insurance Brokers Ltd as account executive.Cobra Insurance Brokers Ltd is an independent brokerage that provides Cobra members with access to markets and is able to place unusual or difficult risks.Harris has ten years' experience in the industry, with the majority of his commercial broking experience gained at Sutton Winson and Hanover Park.

James HallamJames Hallam has appointed Insiyah Alibhai as compliance manager.A law graduate, she has worked in the industry for seven years, previously with Partridge Muir & Warren, Inter-Alliance and Allianz Cornhill.

Riverbourne GroupCorporate broker the Riverbourne Group has appointed Danny King as sales executive at the company's Surrey office. King has joined the group from the Folgate Partnership, where he was previously employed as an account handler for the Redline arm at the company's Oxted office. His new role will involve the marketing and placement of SME business in the South.

The Broker NetworkThe Broker Network has appointed Keith Longthorne as insurer relations director. Longthorne was formerly at Misys Countrywide, where he held a number of management positions, most recently partnerships director. Prior to this he spent 17 years with Eagle Star in various management roles.Longthorne will primarily be responsible for the development of the Broker Network's value-added proposition and relationships with UK insurers in both the national and London markets.

Insurers

IlliumIllium managing agency has made four new appointments to it claims and management team.Stephen Heming, previously compliance director of Professional Risks Insurance, has been appointed compliance officer and company secretary at Illium.Credit control manager Robert Clarkson has joined Illium from Lloyd's Syndicate 386, where he held the position of credit control manager, specialising in UK liability classes of business. Risk assessor Dave Allenby has joined Illium from Aon Group construction division, where he was responsible for major UK building and civil engineering risks.Senior claims assessor Peter Hamberger has joined Illium from Reliance National Insurance Company (Europe), where he was senior claims adjuster. Hamberger joined Reliance in 1996 and had responsibility for managing all claims within the construction and engineering account. Prior to joining Reliance, Hamberger was a senior claims broker at Sedgwick International.

Oak UnderwritingOak Underwriting has made several internal promotions. James Guthrie, Calvin Owen and Sarah Willoughby have all been promoted to become associate directors of Oak Underwriting.

AvivaAndrew Moss has joined Aviva as finance director. Moss is a chartered accountant who trained with Coopers & Lybrand. He later worked for Citibank and HSBC, where he was appointed as chief financial officer for the investment bank and treasury businesses. In September 2000 he joined Lloyd's.

Legal

Davies LaverySimon Staples has joined Davies Lavery's Birmingham team as an associate. Previously with Eversheds, Staples has more than ten years' experience in defendant insurance litigation. Acting for local authorities, insurers and large national self-insureds, Staples specialises in workplace stress, industrial diseases and health and safety prosecutions.

Technology

CDLSystems provider CDL has promoted Nick Jackson to account development manager, heading up the company's 20-strong account management team. In his new role, Jackson is responsible for customer relationship management and business development.Jackson was previously account director with CDL, looking after a number of the company's key clients. Jackson has been with CDL for 11 years and previously worked for Safeguard Insurance and Swinton.

Glencairn AffinityGlencairn Affinity, a consultant in client-branded insurance schemes, has appointed Tom White as partner.White has ten years' experience in the industry, specialising in the marketing development and management of insurance schemes for commercial and personal lines business. Prior to joining Glencairn Affinity, White was director of business development at Marsh Affinity.

MarshMarsh has appointed Iain Pickard as its new UK retail chief operating officer.Pickard will work closely with Marsh's UK retail chief executive, Toby Foster, identifying, developing and implementing new solutions for the business. Marsh's UK retail business encompasses its UK-based brokerage and risk consulting operations outside its specialty lines.Pickard has previously pursued a career in the British Army. He was recently stationed in Iraq as head of public affairs for the Southern Region.Prior to that was a team leader for Iraq risk analysis and assessment in the Defence Intelligence Staff, working alongside the US Defence Intelligence Agency.

BudgetBudget Insurance Services has appointed Suzan Tew to head up the company's contact centre operation in Coventry. Tew has joined Budget after gaining experience at Cable and Wireless, where she was business improvement director for business markets. Prior to that, account management director, with responsibility for more than 250 field and call centre sales staff. Before this, Tew spent nine years at Vodafone in a variety of account management roles, which included managing a sales team of 200 for the SME market.
