EMPLOYEE OF THE WEEK
Deacon promotes Purkiss Property intermediary Deacon Insurance Services Limited (Deacon)has appointed Julie Purkiss, formerly operations director, to the new role of marketing director.

Following past responsibilities in sales, operations, marketing and personnel at Deacon, Purkiss' new responsibilities will include marketing, product and business development, lead generation, operations and personnel.

QBE
QBE International Insurance's major risks division has appointed Philip Needham as portfolio manager of the bloodstock and equine team, reporting to Michael Warwicker,

London general manager, major risks division.

Needham has a wealth of insurance and equine market expertise with seven years at QBE, as well as 16 years' previous experience at Bankside syndicates.

Based at the London Underwriting Centre and underwriting from Lloyd's, the team, headed up by QBE's Needham, comprises assistant underwriters Danielle Lansley, Helen Swain and Rebecca Attridge as well as support staff.

Personal Touch Insurance
The board of Personal Touch Insurance has appointed Mike Allison as its new managing director, replacing Martin Wilson who takes up the role of chief executive.

Allison previously held the position of strategic development director since April 2002.

Before his arrival at Personal Touch, he held a number of positions in the financial services industry, including national account manager for Guardian Financial Services and a strategic development role within Scottish Equitable Protect.

Towergate
Teresa Brewer has joined Towergate Underwriting Group as head of customer relationship management to focus on growing the group's existing customer base.

She has previously worked in customer relationship management roles at Abbey National, AXA and AA Insurance Services.

The Leisure Consortium
James Carroll has been appointed liability underwriter at specialist leisure underwriting agency The Leisure Consortium.

Carroll brings with him a wealth of technical expertise developed during his 14 years in the London Market. Having spent the initial years of his career on the broking side, in 1993 he became an underwriter to concentrate on UK commercial liability business, including entertainment risks

Maestro Insurance Services
Maestro Insurance Services of Bramhall near Stockport announces the appointment of Ann McKeon as a director. She was previously a senior underwriter with Independent and Lombard.

She has been with Maestro for 18 months and her principal duties are leading the team of staff writing commercial business on the Lloyd's binding authorities for both retail and wholesale accounts.

ABIB
Ian Sadd has joined Alan Boswell Insurance Brokers (ABIB) as account executive

He has spent nearly 20 years in the industry, and has worked for Norwich Union, GA Bonus, Yasuda Kasai and John Critoph Insurance Brokers.

Sagar Insurances4
Sagar Insurances, the East Lancashire insurance broker, has appointed Simon Whittaker as account executive.

He joins from Marsh in Manchester.

Watson Wyatt
Watson Wyatt has promoted three European associates to partner within its insurance and financial services practice.

The three appointments are: Rosemary Commons in Ireland, Michael Ross in Asia Pacific and Matt Saker in Europe. They join 24 other new Watson Wyatt partners.

Lawrence Graham
Reinsurance specialist Colin Peck has been made a partner by London law firm Lawrence Graham.

Peck joined Lawrence Graham in 1997, as part of its expanding reinsurance group.

He currently advises and represents London market and international companies, including brokers and underwriting syndicates, on a wide range of reinsurance issues.

Vizards Wyeth
Vizards Wyeth has appointed Jonathan Simmons as partner.

He is an employment law specialist and member of the Employment Law Association.

Total Systems

Total Systems has appointed Clive Dutton as operations director and Arthur Weber as technical director.

Dutton has spent his entire working life in the computer industry. He joined Total Systems in 1979 as a systems designer and was subsequently promoted to consultant, then project manager and, more recently, senior project manager.

Weber started out with Total Systems in 1977 as a programmer, progressing to project manager. He left in 1988 to join Synon, a CASE tools supplier, to manage and reorganise its R&D division.

He returned to Total Systems in 1993 as senior project manager and has overseen various projects including the development of Ultima, the general lines insurance system.

eReinsure
EReinsure, a provider of e-commerce technology for negotiating reinsurance, has appointed James Low as director of business development. He will be based in the company's New York office.

Low has more than 20 years of legal experience. He joins eReinsure from Swiss Reinsurance Company, where he was senior manager of the eBusiness unit for the Americas division.

Previously at Swiss Re, Low was based in Zurich as underwriting counsel for the reinsurance of US business placed in London.

CII
The CII has appointed Stuart Gallagher FCII as corporate relationship manager responsible for the London Market.

He has more 15 years' experience in the insurance sector. For the past eight years he has worked for Royal & SunAlliance in a number of account development and new business roles, most recently focusing on national broker strategy in the London Market.

Certa (UK
Certa (UK) has appointed Glyn Moore as insurance director. He has 29 years experience of the insurance industry, holding senior roles in underwriting, broking, consulting, risk management and claims/incident management with leading organisations such as Legal and General Group, Skandia International, RAC Motoring Services and Aon.

Echelon Claims Consultants
Echelon Claims Consultants has made three new appointments.

Consultants Ken Ross join from CTC Consulting, Candy Holland from Marsh UK and Julian Cairns from JLT Corporate Risks

Ken Ross was formerly managing director of Rush Johnson Associates and director of marine & energy, at Charles Taylor Consulting.

Candy Holland was claims director at Marsh UK and latterly led its claims consultancy practice. Previously she was ten years with Thomas Howell Selfe (now known as Crawford).

Julian Cairns spent 15 years with Thomas Howell Selfe in the UK and Saudi Arabia before joining Jardine Lloyd Thompson in 1994.

RAC Business Solutions
RAC Business Solutions has appointed Colin Simm as head of NU Operations.

He is currently claims operations manager for NU Direct and, via a pioneering arrangement with Norwich Union, joins RAC on a long term secondment.

After graduating from Leicester University, Simm joined Commercial Union and has pursued a varied career in general insurance, including account management, policy administration, claims and HR.

A chartered insurer, Simm was recently awarded an MBA.
