Woodgate & Clark
Nick Michell has joined Woodgate & Clark from Norwich Union where he was head of relationship management.

He will run Woodgate & Clark's new Leicester office at 3rd Floor, 2/4 St George's Way, Leicester LE1 1SH.

Previously Michell was director of quality improvement for McLarens and handled several major losses in the East Midlands.

MMA Insurance

Broker-only insurer MMA Insurance has appointed Derek Plummer as its marketing director assuming responsibility for sales, marketing and underwriting.

He has spent most of his career at Norwich Union in a number of roles, most recently as a director of Norwich Union Insurance.

ACE Europe

ACE Europe has appointed Chris Moore to its Manchester team as energy engineer.

Moore joins ACE Europe from Royal & SunAlliance and has more than 33 years' engineering and insurance experience.

Hiscox

Hiscox has appointed Elliot McDonald to manage Art Projects and to secure exciting and challenging contemporary art for future exhibitions.

McDonald has previously worked with ICA and The Market.

Richard Billingham, Mark Wallinger and Garry Fabian-Miller are among the nine prominent artists who will be exhibiting at Hiscox, 1 Great St Helen's, London EC3A, from today until 28th February 2003.

The exhibition, which is open from 7am until 5.30pm Monday-Friday, marks the first step towards achieving Hiscox's aim to make exciting contemporary collections readily accessible to those living and working in the City, as well as the wider art community. There will be a private viewing on 13th February from 6.30pm to 8.30pm of the project's launch exhibition.

PoundGates Underwriting

PoundGates Underwriting has appointed David Robinson as marine underwriter.

Previously he was the underwriter for Wren Insurance Services' marine division.

UnumProvident

As part of a new corporate structure, UnumProvident, has appointed

Dr Peter Dewis to the newly created role of director of customer care, he has been chief medical officer for the company for two years.

Dr Michael O'Donnell takes over as chief medical officer and head of medical services. He has held the position of company medical officer (occupational health) for nine months at UnumProvident.

Cassidy Davis

Cassidy Davis Insurance Group has appointed Charlie Boyd and Tom Phipps to its personal accident team.

Boyd, who joins as senior personal accident underwriter, was previously at Kiln, where he was deputy personal accident underwriter.

Phipps has 30 years' personal accident underwriting experience in the Company and Lloyd's markets and joins as personal accident underwriter.

JLT Re Solutions

JLT Re Solutions, the US reinsurance broking subsidiary of London-based Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group has appointed Bruce Fell as senior vice president.

Fell joins JLT Re Solutions with more than 13 years of experience as both an actuary and consultant in the insurance and reinsurance sectors. He was formerly with Am-Re Consultants, Inc., where he was a vice president of their merger and acquisition and actuarial services practice.

Gale & Phillipson

Rob Hudson has joined Gale & Phillipson as a financial planning consultant.

He joins Dawn Elkington and Ian Strong as members of the company's independent financial planning team based at the Harrogate office. He has a background in banking and financial planning and most recently he was a corporate independent financial adviser.

BIB (Darlington)

BIB (Darlington) has acquired DMC Insurance Services, and now employs 72 people at its two Darlington sites.

DMC managing director Robert Wilson and staff members Pauline Blewitt and Michelle Degnan move with the company to BIB. Wilson will take responsibility for the financial services division and Blewitt and Degnan will work in the personal and commercial insurance teams.

Watson Wyatt

Watson Wyatt has appointed Philip Brook as global head of its insurance & financial services consulting practice.

Previously he was responsible for Watson Wyatt's insurance and financial services consulting businesses outside the UK, across Europe, Asia and the US.

Manson Warner Healthcare

Manchester-based healthcare consultant Manson Warner Healthcare has appointed Christopher Cannon as operations assistant.

Cannon, who was previously with Norwich Union in its head office in Eastly for over three years, will be responsible for liaising with insurance providers and clients.

Insureassist

Insureassist, a division of Helphire Group, has appointed Barrie Hobbs as business development director.

He was previously business development director at Universal Salvage and prior to that he headed up the insurance sales and marketing team at Autoglass.

Troika

Financial services management consultancy Troika has strengthened its team with the appointment of two additional principal consultants.

Graham Dawkes joins with a specific brief to help develop the firm's general insurance and technology consulting capability. He has worked for IBM, as a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers and, more recently, as a partner at KPMG Consulting.

Kevin Duffy has worked in financial services for more than 20 years and will be responsible for helping develop Troika's technology consulting practice. Initially a financial consultant with Legal & General Direct Sales and Equitable Life, he was later a member of the team that developed direct sales and the internet channel for Scottish Widows.

More recently, Duffy worked at Prudential, as an independent consultant, then as IT director.

Company focus

Business expansion at Primary Broker Services

Primary Broker Services has announced significant business expansion planned for 2003.

The company, launched just five months ago, has already formed partnerships with its first 50 brokers throughout the UK.

During 2003 a recruitment drive will see around 30 new appointments, the first of these key appointments joining in January are:

Mark Whitlow has taken up the post of operations manager. He has more than 20 years' experience in the insurance industry having worked at Cornhill Insurance, HW (Insurance Advisers) and MIDAS Insurance Group.

Andy Jones has joined Primary to head up the UK sales division. Prior to joining, he worked at AXA Insurance where he was responsible for the Midlands region and major clients. He has also held sales development posts at Sun Alliance and Eagle Star.

Finton Griffin has been appointed sales manager for the North West, North East and Scotland. His principal role will be to build broker relationships in these regions. Prior to joining Primary Broker Services, he worked at Eagle Star, AGF and St Paul at Lloyds in broker development roles. He also has previous broking experience.
