Victor Blake moves to Capita

The London Market Services business unit of Capita Insurance Services (CIS) has appointed Victor Blake OBE as a consultant on a part-time basis.

Blake brings more than 40 years' insurance experience to Capita, including 20 years spent in the US and Bermuda. He has been a Lloyd's broker and was vice president of reinsurance for CNA in Chicago in 1964. He returned to London in 1976 to found and develop CNA Re International.

He led the IPO of Bermuda-based reinsurer LaSalle Re in 1995 and was chairman and CEO when LaSalle was admitted to the NYSE in 1997. He returned to London in 2000 and became actively involved on the board of the London Underwriting Centre (LUC), a concept he conceived in 1993 with the backing of 24 founder companies.

He is in his second term as chairman of the LUC.

Zurich Municipal

Zurich Municipal today announced the appointment of Andy McClure as strategic programme manager.

He will be responsible for developing the future strategies for two areas of Zurich Municipal: Zurich Municipal Management Services, the management consultancy and risk solutions arm, and Building Guarantee, provider of warranties to the new homes market.

He has worked as a consultant with Arthur D Little and with BSkyB.

Zurich

Zurich London and Zurich North America announced today that Fredrik Mürer has joined Zurich Emerging Markets as a senior political risk underwriter.

Mürer was formerly vice president at Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, where he worked for the political risk group.

EULER Trade Indemnity

EULER Trade Indemnity has appointed Fabrice Desnos as director of finance.

He joins from EULER & Hermes, EULER Trade Indemnity's parent company, where he was group financial controller and had previously held a number of other senior finance positions since joining the group in 1996.

DAS

Michael English, left, has been promoted to operations manager at Ireland's leading legal expenses insurer, DAS. With the company since 1997, he takes responsibility for claims and legal advice, and oversees all the branch operations.

Three newcomers have also been recruited to handle growth in the vibrant Dublin office.

Veronica Duffy is already well known as secretary of the Irish Institute of Legal Executives and joins DAS as legal advisor and claims handler.

Esther Nielsen and Sarah King assist with business support.

Goodhealth

Goodhealth Worldwide has recruited Andrew Apps and Faisal Shah as European business managers to spearhead their expansion plans in the region.

Apps has more than 20 years' healthcare insurance and reinsurance experience with a variety of organisations, including Bupa and Royal & SunAlliance.

Shah has more than eight years experience having worked initially for Bupa UK and then Bupa International, with responsibility for their entire international intermediary network. In his latest role he headed up the sales and marketing division of MediCare International.

The Beckett Group

Barbara Reynolds has been appointed company secretary to all the operating companies within The Beckett Group based in Bury St Edmunds.

She has been with the group since May 2000 and continues to be group financial controller.

The Broker Network

The Broker Network has recruited a fourth business development manager.

Martyn Denney will be based in London, where he lives, and will work closely with a panel of Broker Network members in the South of England.

Previously, he worked for Commercial Union.

Focus Solutions Group

Focus Solutions Group has appointed Gary Muchmore as sales consultant.

Prior to joining Focus Solutions, Muchmore spent eight years working at Intuitive Systems (now part of CGI) where he was sales and marketing director. He worked at IBM for five years as a software solutions specialist before that.

Mondial

Mondial Assistance has appointed Rob Upton to the new position of national sales manager of the corporate and travel division.

He was previously business development director with internet solutions company E-systems and brings with him a wealth of experience of the insurance, e-commerce and affinity markets

ABS

Richard Piercy has been appointed as senior network manager by vehicle repair network ABS.

His main task will be to oversee the team of eight regional network managers.

He has worked in the vehicle repair industry since the 1970s, originally training as a motor mechanic before taking on various roles within franchise dealerships.

He progressed to become a repair centre manager before joining the MVRA. His most recent role was as network manager for HSBC.

Alan Cleary

Cleary has been Thomas Howell group managing director, Merrett Holdings group chief executive and Miller Knight chairman.

He is past president of the CII and Cila and past chairman of the IRM.

He is currently UNCC commissioner, Geneva. He won the 2002 Insurance Times Lifetime Achievement Award.

David Prior

Prior's previous career includes senior posts at Lazards and British Steel. He also ran a development capital fund, investing in SMEs.

He was MP for Norfolk in 1997-2001.

He is currently IPS group chairman and chairman of several private companies.

Mark Dugdale

Dugdale is a chartered accountant, whose previous employers include Robson Rhodes, Gores Technology Group and Topjobs Net.He has a wealth of experience as a finance director and operations director in a number of fast-growing businesses.
