Groupama this week unveiled details of its bolstered healthcare business, following the acquisition of Clinicare from French mutual insurer Azur GMF.

The purchase of Clinicare was formally completed on 9 November for an undisclosed sum and will add nearly £40m in annual premiums to Groupama's PMI business.

The two operations will be integrated into one centralised healthcare business based in Clinicare's offices in Letchworth under the Groupama Healthcare brand.

The company said it was unclear how many jobs would be axed, but confirmed that Groupama's Tonbridge office was likely to close.

Paul Picknett, Groupma's corporate services director, said: "This places us firmly within the top-eight UK healthcare players and we have real ambitions to grow the business substantially."

The new business will be headed up by Alistair Sclare as head of healthcare underwriting. He will report to Groupama managing director François-Xavier Boisseau.
